Seychelles Secures Seat on UN Tourism Executive Council, Championing Sustainable Tourism in Africa

The Republic of Seychelles has been elected to the prestigious Executive Council of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) for the 2025-2029 term, signaling a significant step forward for sustainable tourism development in the region.

The election, held during the 68th CAF meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, saw Seychelles, alongside Angola, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, and Kenya, secure a seat, reinforcing Africa’s growing influence on the global tourism stage.

This win provides Seychelles with a powerful platform to advocate for sustainable practices, champion the needs of small island nations, and forge valuable partnerships with African travel professionals, ultimately driving responsible and impactful tourism across the continent. The nation’s commitment to environmental protection, international collaboration, and inclusive growth is set to shape tourism policies that benefit the entire African region.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Sylvestre Radegonde expressed his pride, emphasizing collaboration and thoughtful decision-making, while Principal Secretary for Tourism Sherin Francis highlighted the opportunity to actively shape the future of global tourism, strengthening Africa’s voice in international forums. Seychelles’ dedication to a sustainable future is underscored by its Sustainable Tourism Label and ongoing development of a national sustainable tourism policy framework, setting a benchmark for other nations to follow.

This achievement cements Seychelles’ role as a pivotal player in African tourism, poised to host the 69th CAF meeting in 2026 and guide the continent towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.
