“Tourism Meets Law: Enugu Shines as Host of NBA National Conference”

The city of Enugu has become the focal point of national attention as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) kicks off its annual conference. Themed “Stand Out, Stand Tall”, the event has not only gathered the country’s legal minds but also projected Enugu’s growing profile as a tourism and hospitality hub.

NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, said the choice of Enugu was deliberate, describing it as a city that embodies peace, beauty, and hospitality.

“Enugu is the capital of the South-east region and also the home of hospitality, beauty, and peace. That was why we chose Enugu State to host our conference after moving from Port Harcourt,” Osigwe explained.

According to him, beyond the intellectual engagements of the conference, participants are eager to experience the city’s rich culture and welcoming spirit.

“So, we are here in Enugu to enjoy the best that the people have to offer and also have a conversation about building Nigeria and making it an economic giant in Africa. Enugu is set; we are so excited,” the NBA President added.

Enugu’s Tourism Vision

The state government has seized the opportunity to highlight its ongoing investments in tourism and infrastructure. Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said Governor Peter Mbah’s administration has deliberately positioned Enugu to host high-profile gatherings like the NBA conference.

“The Enugu State Government under Dr. Peter Mbah, in its design and thinking around tourism, hospitality, and economic growth, had already factored in most of what you are seeing in preparation right now,” Onyia said.

He stressed that the city’s facilities were developed not just for one-off events but as part of a broader vision to make Enugu a destination of choice for conferences, tourism, and investment.

“Even without the NBA’s plan to come, we had already started planning what would happen if the NBA came here, if the Nigerian Society of Engineers came here, or others,” he stated.

Modern Infrastructure, Lasting Impressions

Prof. Onyia outlined several recent projects that are reshaping Enugu’s tourism and hospitality landscape. He pointed to the commissioning of Enugu Air, the deployment of 100 CNG buses, and the unveiling of five modern transport terminals as critical to easing mobility for visitors.

“Not too long ago, Enugu Air was commissioned; not too long ago, our 100 CNG buses and five modern transport terminals were commissioned. The reconstructed and revamped Hotel Presidential was also unveiled, just to name a few,” he recalled.

The government, he added, is determined to ensure that visitors not only enjoy their stay but also leave with a strong desire to return.

“We want to ensure that when people come here, they move around easily, feel safe, and even love to live here. We are grateful to the NBA for choosing Enugu and believe that they will have a memorable experience during their stay,” Onyia affirmed.

A Boost for Enugu’s Image

The NBA conference is already being viewed as more than a legal gathering. With thousands of lawyers and dignitaries converging on Enugu, the event is serving as a live showcase of the city’s tourism potential. From its newly revamped facilities to its cultural attractions, Enugu is presenting itself as a destination ready for both business and leisure.

Delegates are expected to explore the city’s hospitality offerings, including its renowned cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and historical landmarks. Observers say the successful hosting of the NBA conference could open the door to more international events and position Enugu as a preferred destination in Nigeria’s tourism map.

Beyond the Conference

For many residents, the conference is not just about legal debates but also an economic opportunity. Hotels, restaurants, and transport operators are already experiencing a surge in patronage. Cultural troupes and local businesses are also seizing the moment to showcase Enugu’s heritage and entrepreneurial spirit.

As the conference continues, the state government hopes the impressions created will reinforce Enugu’s long-term tourism agenda. With its strategic investments and renewed global outlook, Enugu is seeking to stand tall as both a legal gathering point and a rising tourism capital.
