Botswana Air Access to Highlight Connectivity and Partnership Opportunities at AviaDev Africa 2025

A high-level delegation from Botswana Air Access, led by the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), will participate in AviaDev Africa 2025, the continent’s premier air service development conference, from June 11th-13th in Zanzibar, Tanzania. This participation signifies a major step in Botswana’s efforts to strengthen regional integration, boost tourism, and enhance trade and investment flows through improved air access.

Botswana’s core objectives at AviaDev 2025 are to engage directly with airlines to explore new routes, host an exhibition stand to highlight investment and tourism opportunities, build relationships with key aviation leaders, and position Botswana as a potential host for AviaDev 2026. The Botswana Air Access team has secured over 13 strategic meetings with airlines and prepared customized business cases with aviation data, tourism trends, and economic indicators to support the launch of new direct services.

“Our goal is simple: to connect Botswana more effectively to Africa and the world,” stated Dr. Bao Mosinyi, Chairman of Botswana Air Access. “AviaDev allows us to showcase our potential and forge the relationships that lead to long-term air service commitments. We also eagerly await the decision on our bid to host AviaDev 2026, which would significantly boost our economy and highlight our potential to leading carriers.”

Botswana Air Access is a collaborative initiative launched in August 2024, led by CAAB and supported by organizations like the Botswana Tourism Organization (BTO), Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), Business Botswana, and tourism associations. A 10% increase in air connectivity relative to GDP has been shown to boost long-term GDP growth by 1%.

In 2023, Botswana recorded nearly 600,000 international passengers, with significant growth from Europe and North America. “Connectivity is the cornerstone of a thriving tourism sector,” added Ms. Keitumetse Setlang, CEO of the Botswana Tourism Organization. “By improving access to destinations like the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park, we support job creation, community development, and increased visitor spending.”
